The YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga serves more than 60,000 individuals and families in the Metro Chattanooga, North Georgia, and Cleveland areas each year. Programs and services provided by the Y help build healthy mind, bodies and spirits for all, and ALL are welcome regardless of inability to pay, religion, gender, social or economic status.

Each year, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga subsidizes $1.3 million in programming and services to families in need.

This year alone, our YMCAs have responded to the following unique needs in our communities:

  • Feeding children: 33 community sites with over 90 bus stops. Our staff and volunteers have worked with Hamilton County Department of Education and other local partners to ensure meals are available to families, particularly during the COVID19 season and post-tornado.
  • Feeding Families: Mobile Market and Bingo's Market continue to operate to ensure access to healthy and affordable food in food deserts, recognizing that healthy food is essential to maintain healthy bodies to combat disease.
  • YCAP - Staff delivered boxes of meals to families with vulnerable youth each week.
  • Education/Childcare: The implementation of Essential Worker Childcare since March 2020 has provided those in essential jobs the ease of childcare. In the Fall of 2020, these efforts pivoted to Parent Support Centers (also for essential workers) for children who opted for HCS@Home learning.
  • Senior Engagement: With the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, our YMCA staff have ensured the most vulnerable population have been supported and have access to services.
  • Vulnerable Stakeholders: Addressing mental and physical challenges for individuals with chronic needs to ensure their success and participation in pandemic and post-pandemic activities to reduce isolation and limitations for jobs, education and socialization.
