Hamilton Family YMCA Group Exercise Class Descriptions

All levels welcome to all classes. Modifications can be made for you. **PLEASE BRING WATER TO ALL CLASSES**

30Min. Step/Sports Conditioning- First 30 minutes basic step moves. Next hour sports conditioning- boosts your metabolism, increases muscular strength, builds endurance with this circuit interval training class. The class format employs strength and cardio circuits using many different fitness tools. Modifications provided to make this the perfect class for the seasoned athlete or the newcomer to fitness.

Basic Step/Interval- this class has simple step movements and interval training. Interval training is short bursts of high intensity exercises with a small amount of recovery time or a lower intensity exercise as recovery. This class is for members that want a high calorie burn.

Body Sculpt- is a weight and resistance training class that can help you shape your body using dumbbells, barbells, exer-tubes, bands, yoga balls, and your own body weight.  The class strength hits all major muscle groups in a week’s classes (MWF). There is no aerobics of any form in this class.

Bosu/Strength Blast- in this class you will use the Bosu ball, chair, step, weights, tubes, bands and/or your on body weight to strengthen, tone and get your heart rate up. This is a great class to improve you metabolism. There is no aerobics of any form in this class.

Cardio Dance- No rhythm, no worries, this class is for everyone. It is a low impact high intensity workout that is inspired from a variety of music genres. Class could include hip-hop, zumba like moves, and old school dance moves. Abs or buns are included in cool down.

Cardio Kickboxing- punch and kick your way to increased cardiovascular endurance, greater muscular strength and improved flexibility. Release tension in a fun and fast paced class.

Cycle- everyone can pedal a bike. In this class you are cycling to music on stationary bicycles. This is an interval workout, which is great for cardio and calorie burn. The participant chooses how intense they want the class to be. **New participants should arrive a few minutes early to class for proper bike set-up and instruction.

Gravity- Experience this workout using only your body weight. Feel the effects of gravity tightening and toning your muscles without even lifting a dumbbell.

Fat Burner-This class is a blend of cardio and strength training in one heart-pumping, fat-burning workout.

Final Cuts- includes a warm-up, cool down and resistance training using a variety of fitness tools. In this class you will increase muscle strength, definition and bone density. 

Guts & Glutes- The focus of this class is the abdominal, buttocks, and hips. A wide variety of exercises are used to target the muscles in these areas with the intent to tone and strengthen.

Hip-Hop- do you want to learn the latest dance moves or just have fun moving? Come to this new exciting class.

Pilates- is a form of exercise based on the writings of Joseph Pilates. This is a program that concentrates on the core muscle strength, flexibility and proper breathing techniques.

Silver Sneakers Range of Motion- Class uses a variety of exercises while moving to music in this chair-based program. The class is designed to increase endurance and strength, which will assist in easier management of your functional daily routine. Activities include exercises using hand-held weights, elastic tubing and balls, and teaches you how to stretch and relax.

Silver Sneakers Cardio Circuit- is a class moves up to an advanced blend of chair and standing low-impact aerobic exercises that increase flexibility and upper body strength.

Silver Sneakers Yoga Stretch- Movement of your entire body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is used to safely perform the variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation exercise will help reduce stress and improve mental clarity.

Step & Core- is a basic step class that is low impact and high intensity. This class includes strength work on the core (abdominal and back muscles). Join in the simple choreographed class to music.

Step Sculpt- is an energizing workout that alternates between basic step movements for cardio and dumbbells, barbells, exer-tubes, bands, yoga balls, for resistance training.

Super Sculpt-is a workout for arms, core and legs. You utilize the stability ball, tubes, dumbbells, bands, and your own body weight for an energizing workout.

Step & Tighten Up- provides both aerobic and strength conditioning in a one-and-half-hour class. Class begins with a warm-up followed by approximately 50 minutes of step aerobics so you’ll “step up “the first hour of class. In the remaining time our instructor will lead you through a series of exercises to strengthen, tone, and “tighten up” major muscle groups for a complete body workout. The class concludes with a traditional cool-down

Traditional Step- is a low impact, high intensity workout using adjustable platforms, followed by a short strength workout. This class is appropriate for all levels. Lot’s of modifications supplied to suit your needs.

Yoga- classes emphasize breathing, flexibility, strength, and core conditioning along with relaxation and stress release.

Family Yoga- the whole family is invited to attend this yoga class.
