James A. Henry YMCA has set into motion an after school program that is well over two years strong. The program its self runs in compliance with goals and objectives set forth by the overseers of the "Get to the Top" experience. Those goals and objectives are as follows:
Pineywoods after school program encompasses educational components(i.e. tutoring, providing learning material and resources). Another element of the program is the focus to offer visits from speakers who put emphasis on growth and strength. Physical activity is encouraged through numerous excercises, sports, and other activities. The program its self is designed to also act as a portal from pre-teen to teen, and from teen to adult. Pineywoods after school program enables the child or teen enrolled to gain a healthy perspective on their current circunstances and place in life. Issues such as teenage-obesity, pregnancy, as well as drug use are covered with educational components geared for a given age.
A typical day inthe program consist of providing and receiving snack and or refreshment, assisting in academic studies,opportunties to create and strengthen personal hobbies(i.e. reading, computers, and excercise), as well as creative strategies aimed towards sharpening the mind and other talents(i.e. community choir , art creations, swimming lessons).
Overall we offer a program diversified in opportunities for personal growth. In conjunction with the Hamilton County Board of Education, the Pineywoods afterschol program has proven to be a success!
