Summer came to our program over a year ago and has become part of the YMCA family. Her mother is actively involved in the parent committee and has always been willing to volunteer her time for the betterment of the program.

This past year, it came to our attention that Summer may have some hearing impairment. At no cost to her mother, Summer was provided professional testing and treatment. Today, she is functioning as an active and vibrant preschooler ready to explore the world. Through the YMCA Scholarship program, this service was offered at no cost. Today, Summer is on track and ready for kindergarten!

YMCA Scholarships in Action

It is the policy of the YMCA that no one be turned away due an inability to pay. Donors to the Strong Kids Campaign help make all this possible. Read what a Y scholarship has done for one member:

"Thank God for the YMCA!" Those words were spoken by a Mrs. W. when making reference to her son's involvement in James A. Henry YMCA's child development programs. Her 5 year old son has been added to our branch family just recently and has been welcomed with open arms of love and support.

Understanding the trials a single mother can face, the Henry YMCA stepped up to the plate and responded to the call of duty by making financial assistance available to the family as well as sincere friendliness and support. Ms. W.'s son can now enjoy all the elements of a Henry youth program, experience life-changing character development as well as reside in a safe environment that makes his mother feels comfortable. "Thank God for the YMCA!" Ms W. stated. We at the Henry YMCA say to this and her son, "Thank God for you!"
