The historical mission of the YMCA, to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, has guided the organization since its founding in London in 1844 to help young men in the inner city. These principles are expressed today through the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. “At the YMCA No One is Turned Away due to inability to pay”
Background/Mission: YMCA Vision: Building Strong Kids, Families & Communities The Rhea Family YMCA volunteers and staff continue to develop innovate solutions to community problems. Here are a few ways we are building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities:
Child Development — The YMCA is literally moving into elementary schools, providing positive after school activities and helping to build literacy skills. Combined with summer day camp, and mentoring and coaching with YMCA youth sports and other programs, the YMCA helps the young people of Rhea County every day.
Strengthening Families — Families face many challenges today, from the hectic pace of modern life to high divorce rates, and the YMCA is working hard to counter these trends with family friendly, giant inflatable fun bouncers and family fun nights, parent child programs, and more. The YMCA is the place for Rhea County family fun!
Outreach to the Community —The YMCA is reaching out to schools, corporations, non-profits and neighborhoods to bring together the resources and people needed to build a stronger community. The parenting and anger management classes to at the Rhea Family YMCA, are examples of just a few of the YMCAs innovate partnerships.
