What is the Y-CAP Woodshop?
Through this program, Y-CAP students have learned how to make mixed wood cutting boards that are sold and the proceeds given back to the students. They also make bluebird houses that have been installed in local neighborhoods and protected woodlands.
Lessons the Woodshop Teaches:
Measuring, cutting and fitting pieces together reinforces math sckills. Learning about different kinds of wood, birdhouse features and benefits, and use of woodworking tools teaches them about science and safe working practices.
The program is taught by Tommy Hobbs, a carpenter by trade, and is expanding ot the Y-CAP Cleveland and Y-CAP East locations.
Volunteers are welcome. If you are interested, please contact Andy Smith.
